L’8 settembre la mitica band The Dream Syndicate pubblicherà il suo quinto album in studio “How Did I Find Myself Here?”
Il loro primo album dal 1988, How Did I Find Myself Here? segna anche il loro debutto su ANTI- Records. Oggi The Dream Syndicate condividono il primo singolo e title track di How Did I Find Myself Here?, oltre undici minuti di rock psichedelico che suonano sia classici che moderni.
The Dream Syndicate sono stati fondati dagli attuali membri Steve Wynn (chitarra, voce) e Dennis Duck (batteria), insieme a Karl Precoda (chitarra) e Kendra Smith (basso), a Los Angeles nel 1981. Con il loro celebratissimo debutto del 1982, The Days of Wine e Roses, la band è presto emersa nella scena college-rock degli anni ‘80. Dopo aver pubblicato altri tre album (The Show of Medicine del 1984, Out of the Gray del 1986 e The Ghost Stories nel 1988), The Dream Syndicate si sono temporaneamente sciolti e poi riuniti nel 2012 per un festival musicale in Spagna. Da allora la band, con l’aggiunta del chitarrista Jason Victor, ha suonato oltre 50 concerti girando per gli Stati Uniti e l’Europa. Nel 2016, sono tornati in studio e hanno iniziato a lavorare al loro primo album in quasi 30 anni.
“[La magia] era lì naturale e facile come la prima prova fatta tre anni prima a Madrid, nonostante il fatto che Mark Walton, Dennis Duck ed io non suonassimo insieme da diversi decenni” racconta Winn riguardo alla lavorazione di How Did I Find Myself Here? “Suona esattamente come tutto quello che amo dei The Dream Syndicate ma anche diversamente da qualsiasi altro disco che abbiamo fatto”.
Nel corso degli anni, The Dream Syndicate si sono rivelati una forza molto influente nel mondo del rock alternativo, con artisti come Kurt Cobain che elencano la band fra le proprie ispirazioni. Come sottolinea Wynn, la band stessa è stata fortemente influenzata da artisti underground come The Fall, The Gun Club, Neu! e Big Star.

“Halloween’ is an eerie number. When the second guitar kicks in I think of a stage covered with fog, Karl stepping to the front of the stage and unashamedly striking a rock pose. It helped me feel alright about playing leads which were so hated at the time. Steve’s more jangly sound also influenced my choice of getting a Fender for my first guitar to start Dinosaur. “The Days of Wine and Roses was my introduction to the Dream Syndicate, and the very beginning of my love affair with the band and their music. My discovery coincided with the writing/recording of our second album, and our song ‘The Nights of Wine and Roses’ was inspired by (and named in homage of) theirs. In autunno, The Dream Syndicate saranno in tour in Europa a supporto del nuovo album How Did I Find Myself Here? e passeranno dall’Italia a fine ottobre per tre imperdibili date, il 25 ottobre a Torino, il 26 a Milano e il 27 a Bologna (more info: http://www.comcerto.it)
